This is a great read. I've had students reach out to discuss their inability to focus and the mix of shame and anxiety that comes with incomplete tasks during distance learning. I've tried to articulate similar tips to the ones you mention here in a way that makes sense for teenagers, but yours captures the "essence" of it much better. Specifically, I liked these lines: "you have to start small enough that you don't feel that guilt/shame/sadness/nausea that comes from doing something you've left uncompleted before. Not only that, but you need something to trigger your new habit." On a personal note, I don't have ADHD but do struggle with a mix of perfectionism and anxiety that can cause an analysis paralysis where nothing is accomplished except too much thinking, so I'd like to internalize this wisdom myself. I look forward to reading more of your posts! :) Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Julie! It really feels great to know that someone else can benefit from my writing, and I hope your students can get something out of it too, even if it's only indirectly.
